An uprising against the rigid molds of the poetic haiku style, pushing the language to its limits, taking the graphemes to the edge of the abyss of the intelligible. Taro only rescues from haiku the sensitivity of the instant frozen in an image, besides its Zen brevity.
私の生きがい | Watashi no Ikigai | The Reason for my Being
The deconstruction of the famous diagram of the purpose, interests, and talents that gravitate around something a little diffuse that ends up being the loved one: it is a love letter. An experiment to break the verticality of Japanese writing and make it part of the flow that we end up being. NOTE: The ideogram located in the concentric center of the piece means 'YOU'.
TARO YAMADA
Taro confesses a special fascination for seeing how unnatural Japanese writing can be for the West: unintelligible ideograms, words without spaces written vertically and read from right to left, sometimes with diffuse meaning in western languages. But also understands that originally each ideogram is the representation of an object, and there is no better way to return to the origin than to let the character become a thing, again. This is his definition of a calligram. His western education mixed with his Japanese roots places him in the middle of something, creating a strong need to transmit and validate what he feels, in others. He feels like a bridge, don't know what about it. He is part of REBELWORDS.ORG: a union of artists oriented to mix articulated poetry with visual art and non-conventional publications.
